Itinerary

After a briefing with our climb managers the day before, your guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel in the morning for another short information session. You’ll then be picked up from your hotel and embark on a 3–4-hour drive to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). Once the climbing permits are acquired and registration with search and rescue services is complete, you'll begin your trek to the first camp: Mti Mkubwa (2,780 m). Since you’ll be trekking through the rainforest, raincoats are essential for the day. Upon reaching the camp, our expert crew will set up tents and prepare lunch. After eating, you’ll go on an acclimatization hike to Shira 1 Camp, gaining 300 meters in altitude, before returning to Mti Mkubwa Camp for a hot dinner.

You'll wake up early, enjoy breakfast, and then begin a gradual trek upwards to 3,500 meters. At this point, you will be treated to your first stunning views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Volcano. The trek from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) is relatively easy, taking about 5-6 hours. This allows for a gradual acclimatization process, which is essential for a successful trek. Upon arrival at the camp, your support team will prepare lunch, and you can either rest in your tent or explore the surrounding area.

You'll depart from Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) for a light trek to the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m). The hike is relatively easy, allowing you to enjoy stunning views of Africa and the unique flora of Kilimanjaro. Weather permitting, Shira 2 Camp offers the best opportunity to see Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest peak. Upon arrival, you'll have lunch and rest for about two hours before embarking on an acclimatization hike toward Lava Tower Camp, gaining an additional 300 meters in altitude.

After breakfast, you'll depart from Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and head towards the pivotal point of the trek: Lava Tower (4,630 m). This part of the route includes numerous ascents and descents, eventually leading to a camp at over 4,600 meters. Although this section can be challenging and you might experience some discomfort due to the altitude, it's essential to spend 1–2 hours here for proper acclimatization, making it the perfect spot for lunch. Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), where you'll encounter the impressive Barranco Wall, known for its massive size and steepness. Don't worry about the climb the next day—it follows a straightforward hiking trail.

After an early wake-up and breakfast, you’ll begin the ascent of the Barranco Wall. To avoid large crowds, we recommend departing camp as early as possible. The climb up the gorge wall is relatively easy and takes about an hour. Once at the top, you can rest and capture stunning photos with the Kibo volcano as your backdrop. Next, you’ll embark on a more challenging hike to Karanga Camp, which includes several ascents and descents. Don’t worry—our experienced guides will set an ideal pace for the group. Upon arrival at Karanga Camp, you'll enjoy a warm lunch. Afterward, you'll complete an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp, gaining 200 meters in altitude, before descending back to camp for the night.

After breakfast, you'll head toward Barafu Summit Camp (4,640 m), the launching point for your night ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Upon arrival, our team will have already set up the camp, including your tents and sleeping bags, so you can relax and recover. Once you've regained some energy, you'll embark on an acclimatization hike to the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m), then return to Barafu Camp for a hot dinner. It’s recommended to spend the rest of the day resting and sleeping in preparation for the very early summit attempt.

You’ll depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) at night to begin your ascent to Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). While the technical aspects of the climb are relatively straightforward, the high altitude presents the greatest challenge. Each pair of climbers will be assigned a personal guide to monitor your physical and mental well-being throughout the ascent. After reaching the summit, you can choose to explore the nearest glacier before making your way back to Barafu Camp. Following a two-hour rest, you’ll continue your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).

Your camp for the previous night is nestled within a tropical rainforest. Upon waking, you'll experience a sense of relief from the altitude and the joy of having reached the summit. After enjoying a warm breakfast, you'll make your way to the park's exit at Mweka Gate (1,650 m). Once you complete your descent, the entire group will come together to celebrate your achievement, and you'll have the opportunity to share your thoughts about the climb in the guestbook. Lastly, we will present you with commemorative certificates at our office before transferring you back to Arusha to be dropped off at your hotel.
