Tanzania visa
Most visitors need a visa. Apply online before you fly, or get one on arrival.
Before you fly
Apply online
Use the Tanzanian government’s official e-visa site: eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa. It is the only official link. Embassies no longer issue visas over the counter.
Apply a few weeks before you travel and print the approval.
At the airport
Visa on arrival
Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar airports issue visas on arrival, in three queues:

Request a control number
Fill in the form and get a government control number.

Pay
Pay the fee and get a receipt. Bring US dollars.

Collect your visa
Hand over the receipt and your passport.
Allow 20 minutes on a quiet day, more than an hour in high season. Bring a pen.
Documents
Passports and children
- Passport valid for at least six months after you leave Tanzania
- Children travelling with one parent need a letter in English from the other parent agreeing to the trip
- Zanzibar is part of Tanzania: the same visa covers it
- Yellow fever certificate if you arrive from or via a yellow fever country

Do I need a visa for a day trip to Zanzibar?
No extra visa. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania.
