Beautiful nature and excellent safariguide The communication with the company was very good, and we were in good hands from the minute we arrived. The taxidriver was very kind and helpful! I experienced the company as profesional and qualified to give us the best Safari. It was good service and we could always ask if it was anything we were curious about.We got a lot of value for the money! We slept at budget lodged, and it was ok for sleeping as we were out on Safari the whole day and didn’t spent much time there.The food was good, so thank you to our chef! We ate chicken, vetetables and rice/pilau. For breakfast we ate bread, omelet, pancakes and fruit. Drinks were included, which we found very nice.We went to Tarangire and Ngogongoro, and I would go again! Really recommend it! 🙂 We saw animals like elephants, giraffes, zebras, Lions, pumbas (warthodges) and so much more!! We also saw a rhino in ngorongoro!I would recommend this company and our guide David to everyone! Thank you for the great experience!
10/10 experience 10/10 experience. Our guide Frederick was great, our cook Richard had great meals everyday. The safari was an awesome time. Whatever package you book just make sure it includes the Serengeti as that is the best park. My only other suggestion would be to maybe book the airport transfer and hotel first night on your own as you will save yourself a good amount of money. But overall this was a great time and well worth the money.

Excellent Safari good comfort and very well-educated tour guide The communication with Lucas via WhatsApp was always very friendly, direct and immediately. He also arranged an extra transfer from another hotel and and an special transfer.Our tour guide Aboh was very familiar with all animals and plants visible in all 4 national Parks we visited. He was spotting animals not only by direct observation but also taking into account tracks, prey and typical sorrounding. He had a very good feeling where to find the rarest animals and was always providing interesting extra information - thanks to his university education also with a scientific-biological level.Our chef for the Safari, Richard was also outstanding regarding quality and also quantity of the food he served. Especially his soups were really great and are to recommend. Taking into account we were doing a camping Safari, his fulfilling of extra requests and the permanent provision of vegetarian options was excellent.Additionally all staff was very friendly and humorous.

It was amazing!!! Above expectations My partner and I have done 6 days of safari at the beginning, I thought the safari was too long but at the end of the vacation, I can say that you need time... 6 days is the right period to see many animals and scenarios and feel the African culture and you have time to rest. We have spent 3 days at serengeti Park and with the good job of our guide David we saw many things each day. E.g. we saw a leopard attack, David understood the right position to see the leopard and at the end the leopard passed very close our jeep. I take with me an amazing experience! Thank you David for the amazing trip.

Memorable tour We booked online the safari tour with Makini Tanzania Safari and from the very first email they showed up their professionalism that made us decide for this agency. The communication was clear and super detailed. The team provided all the information we needed to know and adviced us based on our preferences. Open to answer any question and very reactive in replying. From the very first moment we arrived in Tanzania they made us feel very welcome and at home. The service and the overall experience far exceeded our expectations. david was our safari guide and he's simply amazing. He knows the parks, especially Serengeti park, as the back of his hand. He can spot any animal from very far away and he was always in radio contact with the other guides to know what was going on in the park in order to let us enjoy the safari at the fullest. I strongly recommend to book a safari tour with Makini Tanzania Safari and to explicitly ask for David as safari guide!

Unforgettable experience and great services. I highly recommend guide David We booked a 5 day lodge Safari with Makini Tanzania Safari and our experience was truly outstanding!! Our guide/driver was David and he made our tour unforgettable. He made sure that we see all the possible animals and enjoy the trip to the fullest. He also answered all our questions and knew the parks really well. It was never boring with him. The lodges and food were perfect - it was an experience on its own. Thank you Makini Tanzania Safari team and especially David for this unforgettable experience!

The communication and service was excellent, Lucas responded to all our queries in a timely fashion and provided comprehensive information it was one of the reasons we choose this company out of the initial 3 that we contacted during the initial planning stages. We had a fabulous experience and were so pleased we went with Makini Tanzania Safari. It truly was an experience of a life time, friends back home are so amazed at the photo's I managed to take of the animals as well as the places we stayed and the food. Great value local Tanzanian operator that provided an unforgettable safari experience I live in Tanzania, have done numerous safaris, and wanted to pick a tour for my daughter and her friends that would be good value, and be from a reputable local operator. We could not have chosen better with Makini Tanzania Safari. I wrote to 10 operators and what immediately impressed about Lucas and Makini Tanzania Safari was how responsive they were. Based on responses we got from the 10 operators, Makini Tanzania Safari provided the best combination of price and apparent quality.Come to the safari itself, which was two nights (Karatu and Ngorongoro) and three days (Tarangire, Ndutu/Serengeti and Crater). That was just as fantastic as we had hoped. Our guide was great company, very knowledgable, and a great driver. Aboh guided us to pretty much all we could have hoped to have seen, and we all loved the trip. Accommodation was first class.All in all, we had a wonderful trip, and we are so grateful to the team at Makini Tanzania Safari for making it such an enjoyable experience.
Serengeti National Park Safari Our first safari in Tanzania and an unbelievable experience!! We booked our tour with the Makini Tanzania Safari. Lucas Makini was extremely helpful in organizing our 6-day safari. We went to Lake Manyara, Serengeti National Park. Tangerine Park and the most impressive Ngorongoro National Park. Kudos to our driver/guide, Abu who was always very helpful and transmitted his vast knowledge of all the animals living in these parks. Also, the accommodations at different lodges were exceptionals. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend this safari through Serengeti African Tours.

Makini Tanzania Safari - the best and safest way to see the BIG 5 I went on a safari with my 2 sons of 19 and 20. David was our guide. He was amazing. His knowledge of the national parks, the animals and nature was next to nothing and - very important - he is a very safe and cautious driver. We have had great lunches at wonderful places and the hotels were breathtaking. The group was perfectly put together and after 4 days we parted as friends. AND, we saw the big five! That's what you need a good guide for, too. Highly recommended. Choose wisely.

Frequently Ask Questions

Below are a few general FAQs that you need to know before traveling to Tanzania.
In case there is anything you can’t find then please send us an email and we will get back to you with the answer.

We would recommend bringing USD (United States Dollars) with you and withdrawing some Tanzanian Shillings once you arrive. There are ATMs in Arusha/JRO Airport. Most places that you will visit accept USD but it's always good idea to have local currency.

You will require vaccinations for your trip. All travellers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic about 3 months before departure. Ask your doctor about vaccinations recommended by your government before travelling to Tanzania. Yellow Fever Vaccination is compulsory and to be taken at least 10 days before arriving in Tanzania. The other recommended vaccinations are Tetanus, Polio and, Malaria (prophylaxis).

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is approximately 60km (60 min) from Arusha city centre. Kilimanjaro International Airport is the closest International Airport to Arusha.

Arusha Municipal Airport (ARK) is on the outskirts of Arusha but only operates domestic flights (Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Serengeti).

Other options include flying to Dar es Salaam and then catching a domestic flight to Kilimanjaro or Arusha. You can also fly to Nairobi (Kenya). International flights to this destination are often cheaper. You can then fly from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro or take a bus from Nairobi Airport to Arusha (approximately 7 hours).

A 10% to 30% deposit will already be taken to reserve your slot. The remaining balance can be paid by using one of the below methods:
  • Cash in USD before the tour start.
  • Pay by card before the tour starts with a 5% card processing fee. (Applicable throughout Tanzania)
  • Pay by bank transfer at least 4 weeks in advance.

Waterproof, windproof, breathable pants and jacket with hood Goretex is excellent. packs (like Camelbaks) also work well, although the hose can freeze on the summit climb. Headlamp with extra batteries You might also consider a backup flashlight in case your headlamp fails.

Kilimanjaro and Safaris Packing List You can hire the required gear on the spot when you arrive in Tanzania.

There will be basic First Aid Kit in the Safari Vehicle, also we have it for the Kilimanjaro climbing, but still we recommend bringing a personal First Aid Kit. This is a suggested list of supplies: Sun Screen, Antihistamine cream & tablets,

The weather varies greatly, depending on where you are. Whatever time of year you come, please bring some warm clothes! It gets really cold in some places because of the high altitude, especially in June, July and August. It can also get very hot during afternoon. We advise dressing in layers. Typically, the long rains are March, April, and May. The short rains are in November / early December.

It is possible to visit one of several Maasai villages during your safari. However, these villages are close to the main roads and whilst you will meet many Maasai, have a tour around their village and have an opportunity to learn about their culture, some clients have given the feedback that the experience felt a little uncomfortable. It costs $25 per person and during the visit, you will be encouraged to buy some of their jewellery/craft (this is by no means compulsory). It is inevitable that over time, the experience has become less authentic and we are in the process of sourcing alternative options for our clients. You are very welcome to visit, but we wanted to be open and transparent about the kind of experience you can currently expect.

Tipping is highly expected in Tanzania. There is a well- established culture of tipping.

Guides: If you feel you have received good service, a typical tip is U$D 10-15 per person, per day. The guides work extremely long hours and tips supplement their income significantly. Anything you can afford is appreciated.

Tipping in accommodation is also discretionary. Most accommodation will have a tip box in Reception. We would recommend putting something in at the end of your stay, rather than giving individuals money. Depending on the level of service, we recommend $10 per day (for a group of 2).

The crews for one person for Kilimanjaro climbing include:
=> 1 Guide
=> 1 Chef Cook
=> 1 Waiter
=> 1 Toilet Porters
=> 4 Supporting Porters
