We leave Arusha after breakfast and climb into the Ngorongoro highlands, stopping for about 20 minutes at the crater viewpoint.

On the way you can visit a Maasai village (20–45 minutes). It is optional and paid for locally, and plenty of guests skip it.

We reach Seronera in the central Serengeti in the late afternoon and game-drive until sunset, when big cats are often on the move, then set up camp.

Questions about this safari

Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

No. A tent, mattress and sleeping bag are included. Bring a small pillow or a fleece to roll up if you like a softer one.

How many people share the vehicle?

Up to 6 or 7, and everyone has a window seat. If fewer people join a departure, you get more room at the same price.

Can I join on my own?

Yes. Solo travellers pay the 1-person price in the table, because there is no one to share a tent with. Ask us if you are happy to share; it may bring the price down.

When is the best time for this route?

Any month. The central Serengeti has resident lions and cheetahs all year, and the crater is good in every season. December to March brings the herds closer to the crater on their way south.

Can I upgrade to lodges?

Yes. The same route with lodge nights is $1,100 per person for two travellers. Your guide, vehicle and days stay the same.
