After breakfast at your accommodation in Arusha, our driver-guide will meet you for a brief orientation before heading to Tarangire National Park for a game drive. The park, which follows the Tarangire River, is characterized by low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation consists mainly of acacia woodland and giant African baobab trees, with extensive swamp areas in the south. During Tanzania's dry season, the river and swamps attract a plethora of wildlife. Tarangire National Park is renowned for having some of the largest elephant herds in Africa and is home to 3 rare species: the greater kudu, the fringed-eared oryx, and the ashy starling. You'll enjoy a picnic lunch and continue the game drive until late evening. Afterwards, you'll drive to the Karatu Safari Camp for an overnight stay.

After lunch, you'll continue with another game drive before returning to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

On this day, you will descend over 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater to observe wildlife. With a year-round supply of water and fodder, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to a wide variety of animals, including herds of wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, elands, warthogs, hippos, and giant African elephants. The park is also known for its dense population of predators, such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopards, which often require a trained eye to spot. Additionally, you can usually see large numbers of flamingos, hippos, and other waterbirds here. In the late afternoon, you'll transfer to the campsite for an overnight stay.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, located in northern Tanzania, is renowned for the expansive Ngorongoro Crater and its "Big Five" animals: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino. Vast herds of wildebeests and zebras migrate across its plains annually. Livestock belonging to the semi-nomadic Maasai community graze alongside the wildlife. The Olduvai Gorge within the area is famous for hominin fossils that date back millions of years. In the afternoon, you'll depart from the national park and travel back to Arusha.

Questions about this safari

Is this safari private?

Yes. The vehicle and guide are only for your group, for parties of up to 7 people. Larger groups: ask us.

When can it start, and can we change it?

It can start on any day that suits you, and we can change the lodges, the order of the parks or the number of nights.

Can children come?

Yes, from age 2. Children under 13 pay less, and under 5 travel free.

Can I book it on my own?

Not as a solo traveller: the price is for two or more. Ask us about joining a group safari instead.

Are airport transfers included?

We can arrange them for a small extra cost. Tell us your flight times.

What is the difference between joining and private?

On a joining safari you share the vehicle and guide with other travellers on a set date, which brings the price down. On a budget private safari the vehicle is yours and you choose the date.

Are park fees included?

Yes. Park entrance fees and taxes are included in every price on this page.
