Distance: 30-50km (20-30mi) Non-game viewing time: 2 hours Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel, where you will meet your guide, chef, and fellow travelers. We will then drive for about 2 hours to Tarangire National Park, known for its diverse landscapes, ancient baobab trees, and Tanzania's largest concentration of elephants. Here, you'll have the rare opportunity to observe elephant family interactions up close. Our game drive will follow reported sightings, offering a chance to spot elusive predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards, along with abundant giraffes, wildebeest, and zebras. We will stop for lunch at the Tarangire River picnic site, where you can enjoy stunning views of the river and its wildlife. After breakfast, we will descend 600m (2,000ft) into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater's year-round water supply and rich grazing grounds support diverse wildlife, including herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, eland, warthogs, hippos, and giant African elephants. The area is also renowned for its high density of predators, such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and occasionally leopards, which may require a keen eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner of the crater, home to hippos, flamingoes, and other water birds. We will transfer you back to Arusha in the late afternoon and drop you off at your preferred hotel.

Questions about this safari

Is this a shared or private safari?

Shared: you travel with other guests in a pop-up-roof Land Cruiser, which keeps the price down. Your own party can be up to 7 people. The departure runs once at least 6 travellers have booked. Ask us if you'd prefer it private.

When can it start, and can we change it?

It can start on any day that suits you, but the route itself is fixed.

Can children come?

Yes, from age 3. Children under 13 pay less.

Can I book it on my own?

Yes. Solo travellers are welcome; a single room costs a little more.

Are airport transfers included?

We can arrange them for a small extra cost. Tell us your flight times.

What is the difference between joining and private?

On a joining safari you share the vehicle and guide with other travellers on a set date, which brings the price down. On a budget private safari the vehicle is yours and you choose the date.

Are park fees included?

Yes. Park entrance fees and taxes are included in every price on this page.
