After breakfast, you'll be picked up from your hotel by our driver-guide, who will provide a brief orientation before heading to Tarangire National Park for an exciting game drive. This park, situated along the Tarangire River, features low-lying hills within the Great Rift Valley, a landscape dominated by acacia woodlands and majestic African baobab trees, with expansive swamp areas to the south. During Tanzania’s dry season, the river and swamps become a hotspot for wildlife. Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds and is also home to three rare species: the greater kudu, the fringed-eared oryx, and the ashy starling. After enjoying a picnic lunch, you'll continue exploring the park until late evening before heading to the lodge for an overnight stay.

The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti. Your itinerary will be adjusted based on the location of the migrating herds. Predators like lions, leopards (often spotted in acacia trees), and cheetahs typically trail the herds. During the short rainy season from November to December, the herds migrate from the northern hills to the southern plains. Conversely, during the longer rainy season from April to June, they move back north. Since the migration is influenced by annual rainfall, the herds' locations can vary each year. Rest assured, your guide will be knowledgeable about where to find the animals and will ensure you have the best viewing opportunities.

On this day, you'll descend over 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater to observe the abundant wildlife. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with its year-round water supply and lush vegetation, is home to a diverse array of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. This picturesque park is also known for its dense population of predators such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopards, which often require a trained eye to spot. You will visit Lake Magadi, a large yet shallow alkaline lake located in the southwestern corner of the crater. This lake is a major highlight where you can typically see numerous flamingos, hippos, and other water birds. After that you will drive back to Arusha. And you will be dropped at your hotel.

Questions about this safari

Is this safari private?

Yes. The vehicle and guide are only for your group, for parties of up to 7 people. Larger groups: ask us.

When can it start, and can we change it?

It can start on any day that suits you, and we can change the lodges, the order of the parks or the number of nights.

Can children come?

Yes, from age 3. Children under 13 pay less, and under 4 travel free.

Can I book it on my own?

Not as a solo traveller: the price is for two or more. Ask us about joining a group safari instead.

Are airport transfers included?

We can arrange them for a small extra cost. Tell us your flight times.

What is the difference between joining and private?

On a joining safari you share the vehicle and guide with other travellers on a set date, which brings the price down. On a budget private safari the vehicle is yours and you choose the date.

Are park fees included?

Yes. Park entrance fees and taxes are included in every price on this page.
